Project Overview
The goal of this project was to design a digital experience that allowed users to access loans without going through a traditional banking process. R2, in collaboration with various strategic partners, aimed to offer this product through its platform, fully integrated via API.
One of the main challenges was clearly defining which type of user would be eligible for the loans, and how to optimize a fully digital and automated flow that relied on external data and integrations.
Another important challenge was ensuring the integration of each design system with the API, ensuring that the solutions were easily adaptable to the needs of each partner we will be working with.
Approach
Design plays a crucial role in shaping perceptions and creating memorable experiences.
The final design focused on a 5-step flow that guides the user from start to finish of the loan application process.
Process
My first step was to work closely with the data team to identify the key criteria that defined a potential beneficiary. We analyzed variables such as: 💸 Transaction volume and frequency 🛍️ Number of associated establishments 🏦 Credit history
In parallel, we conducted a benchmarking of over 30 companies (both direct and indirect competitors) to understand market standards, identify differentiation opportunities, and gather best practices. After obtaining partner approval, I met with the product team to fully understand the technical, legal, and design limitations we needed to address: 🧩 Integration with existing systems 🌎 Design adaptable to multiple countries 👩💻 Alignment with partner design systems (or creating new ones when none existed) Additionally, we worked with backend and product to define the API architecture, including the key advantages of our lending product over traditional bank loans.
Final Design
The design was iterated based on regular validation sessions with both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with legal and technical requirements across countries.
The product flow was designed to be clear, progressive, and educational. These were the main steps:
✉️ Personalized invitation: Users received a notification within their platform introducing the new product. 💰 Loan offers: Up to three personalized loan options were shown, each with different amounts, terms, and interest rates, allowing users to choose based on their needs. 🧔♂️ Informational process: Screens explaining benefits, how the loan works, and frequently asked questions helped reduce friction and build trust. 🪪 User identification and validation: Initial registration (RFC, phone number, email, bank account). OTP generation Upload of personal documentation for authentication. 👨💼 Legal approval: Once the process was completed, the application was reviewed by the legal team for final approval.

Achievements
This project allowed me to tackle complex challenges such as: 🏅 Designing for multi-partner integrations with varying rules and structures 📱 Transforming financial workflows into accessible, user-friendly experiences for non-banking users 🙌 Aligning design, legality, and technology into one scalable system This case solidified my role as a product-oriented designer, collaborative, and deeply focused on solving real business and user problems.
